Twenty-One-Year-Old Singing Sensation Sarah Jarosz Plays Portland’s Aladdin Theater 8/1 and Seattle’s Triple Door 7/30/2012, By Holly Homan

Sarah Jarosz may only be twenty-one years old, but she’s already on her way to stardom. She also holds more talent than almost any pop star of today combined.

Jarosz plays an honest and pure form of country music that spills over into a more folky sound also. She not only writes all her songs, but plays three instruments — guitar, clawhammer banjo and octave mandolin. Did I mention she has the voice of an angel?

Jarosz signed a recording contract before she was even out of high school and her first CD, Song Up In Her Head, was released in mid 2009.

Jarosz is a breath of fresh air in an era when the music for and by youth is filled with lyrics that a four-year-old could write and synthetic voice enhancements that make the music about as real and as substance-filled as a marshmallow.

Jarosz writes lyrics that have depth and intelligence, which is also rare in the country genre or any popular music genre and possess a timelessness that appeals to all ages and knows no boundaries.

Jarosz is playing Monday night 7/30 at Seattle’s Triple Door, 7/31 at Eugene’s Jaqua Concert Hall and 8/1 at Portland’s Aladdin Theater. More touring information may be found here. I recommend anyone looking for music with substance to head on down there. This may be your final chance of seeing her in an intimate setting.
