The Mammals have some Unpopular Ideas…

Following the success of their ambitious 2020 release Nonet (“Nonet marshals the defiant spirit needed to heal a damaged world” – No Depression), The Mammals are back to their “subversive, acoustic, traditionalist” roots with Unpopular Ideas, the latest in a series of singles recorded and released from their label and recording studio, Humble Abode Music, headquartered in the beautiful Hudson Valley of New York.

“Somewhere along the line we made the decision to sing about what we’re for over what we’re against,” says songwriter, Mike Merenda. “It turns out, however, that we’re still very much for singing truth to power, especially those same old power brokers that have plagued us for decades: Big Oil, Big Ag, Big Pharma, Big Tech, the Military Industrial Complex. These don’t seem like particularly controversial targets to me. My favorite part of the song are the solutions in the final verse: gardening, shared meals amongst neighbors, un-plugging from fear . . . supporting decentralization and regenerative farms. In this hyper-polarized culture I hope Unpopular Ideas will inspire folks to feel that maybe their ideas aren’t as unpopular as they’ve been made to believe.”
