LA FURIA: Feminist Hip Hop from the Basque Country

La Furia was born in 1983 with a combative, fighting and feminist vision. In other words, she was a smart girl.

She also had a profound, poetic and powerful sense of life which she had to communicate. Words were going to be important and music would be central.  Hip hop seemed like the genre for her but there was no place for women  in Basque Country rap at that time.

So La Furia created her own ferocious, feminist phenomenon in 2013 when her wild album, “No hay clemencia” was released. La Furia dared to perform on stages where women had not been before.  And she hasn’t stopped since.

La Furia speaks of incomprehension, of anarchy, of feminism, of rage disjointed in sharp and hurtful rhymes. It is a speech machine-gunned with violence; it is a half-revealed truth; it is a crude and brilliant jewel…
