This Week in Hell: No Air Conditioner Yet, by Mark Erickson

We started the week with the Iowa caucus. More like, Io-what??? Technological problems led to chaos and embarrassment, and state officials apologized for not being able to call a winner. With Biden sliding toward Styx, billionaire Michael Bloomberg could capture a prominent spot as a moderate.

Then on Tuesday President Trump delivered his State of the Union address, which he titled the “Great American Comeback.” I am not sure what America is rebounding from, but it fits the modus operandi of the pathological liar. I did not see the speech…just watched a few short clips the next day…such as Dump ignoring the Speaker’s outstretched arm and the Speaker ripping a copy of the speech in half.

While on the campaign trail, Mr. Trump promised to eliminate the $19 trillion national debt in eight years. His “Comeback” speech failed to mention his tax plan flows red ink at approximately $1 trillion per year. He also promised tax relief for the middle class during his campaign; instead, the ultra-wealthy and corporations got windfalls and my Federal taxes increased 50% last year! In this week’s Barron’s, the newspaper reported the wealthy got, “A tip for individual taxpayers $11.6M [the a]mount in assets that a taxpayer can gift in 2020, removing the assets from the base on which a wealth tax would be imposed, while also avoiding a gift tax.”

The nearly invisible mute over the last three years, aka The First Lady, presented the Presidential Medal of Honor to toxic Rush Limbaugh. Read a book, “The Way Things Aren’t: Rush Limbaugh’s Reign of Error.” Written for Fairness and Accuracy in Reporting, with a forward by Molly Ivins, the book chronicles the vastness of outrageously false and foolish statements by this pathological liar.

On Wednesday, the Senate acquitted Teflon Don. He was cleared of abuse of power and obstruction; he was clearly guilty. Senator Mitt Romney displayed a spine when he stuck to principles to cast the lone Republican vote for conviction. Here’s hoping voters remember their senators and kick them to the curb.

Also this week, the latest Gallup poll indicated the President has his highest approval rating ever: 49%. Yes, we are truly in Hell.
