Jamaica Aftermath Day 1: Crossing Elephants with the Alps, by Davin Michael Stedman

I hit the ground running. Jogging 4.20 K at Forest Park as I type. Listening to Stones, as Gleaner writer messages me that she went to Port Antonio to interview the legendary Jolly Boys and she slipped in another mention of me.

I hit a wall in Seattle. I did. Jimi Hendrix didn’t get very far here. Most musicians do. This Columbian girl says to me on the music video shoot with pwile chile verbatim, “Seattle…the City of Music…”

You should have seen her face when I said that was a motto our city government concocted as a PR move like New York did in the 70s with Big Apple and the dollars they invested in worldwide tourism and social media worked. How ever musicians can’t even afford to park there, let alone live there. From the time that catch phrase was coined and minted with parking ticket revenue, what has changed for the better?

Like the oceans, the costs are rising in Kingston. New Orleans, everywhere musicians are trying to work for regular folks that will listen.

I study history and literature. Hemingway said the strongest and weakest in post modern world will be crushed alike, against these walls. But I remember Chaka Zulu and his ferocious Horns of Africa formation.

You go around that wall.

I remember Houston beating the superior Santa Anna. You retreat, give your opponent great chase, then turn around and you Win.

You sneak around these walls.

I love Hemingway, but he was also full of sh☆t. I have a story that we can all laugh at coming soon. I have to laugh at myself. Sometimes I put myself in situations that ridiculous.

I am no Hemingway. But neither was Hemingway. I’m no Shaka Zulu. But he was miserable and ugly man, a butcher and a tyrant. But I will steal his attack formation he probably just popularized. But fortune favors the bold. And I want to take every lesson I can and do something positive.

I am not the Lion of Judah. But I am a genuine creole and a Jungle Cat.

And like Chaka’s troops I wrote this whole post at a gallop.

Beat that Hemingway. Hit me with your best shot. It’s hard to hit a moving target

My first day back from Jamaica and I’m all fired up. I don’t do well with this day off / decompression thing. But I am trying.

Thank you to everyone that is involved in my Patreon. That really helped and I hope you loved the sneak preview of the music video shoot I sent this morning.

If you are thinking of getting involved please do. Reach out. It starts for as little as a buck a month. If I reach a certain level, I’ll get a chance to promote this album around the world. And those that are on the second tier own publishing on the West Indian Rock album.

…and there will be parties worldwide.
