Bee Gees – Stayin Alive, by Knute Rimkus

As I sat in my cab today, listening to “Stayin’ Alive” at crushing volume and appreciating that delicious bass line which seems to have a life and a manifesto of its’ own, I realized the BeeGees and disco by extension have enjoyed a dramatic reversal in my level of artistic appreciation.

In that brief two- to three-year period in the ’70s when disco was ubiquitous, I hated it with a passion. Everything about the BeeGees, from their big hair to their leisure suits to the falsetto voices, repelled me.

Nowadays, I totally dig the Fever. I’ve got the fever. That bass line gets my temperature rising and my butt shaking. Why the change of heart? Lessening resistance to the popular and my own evolution from fighter to lover.
