Scenes from 2018 Baseball, by Chuck Strom

Paid a visit to the San Francisco Giants yesterday as they beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 4-2 on Sunday. The win brought the Giants record for April to 14-14, suggesting that the jury is still out on whether their off-season makeover will bear fruit. The defending National League champion Dodgers have had their own share of problems and actually trail the Giants in the standings. Not sure how long that’s going to last, but it beats last season when the Giants immediately dispelled any hope of contention with a 9-17 start. Interestingly enough, the Giants, despite their 2017 debacle, still rank near the top in home attendance so far in 2018 at just under forty thousand fans a game. Their fans are either incredibly loyal or eternal optimists. Possibly both.
