The Rebel Light – Strangers

rebellightThe Rebel Light is a friendly LA band with some catchy tunes. Above and below is “Strangers,” their latest hit in the making, and I like it. The expansive drums at the start of “Strangers” reminds me of Edwyn Collins’ “I Never Met a Girl Like You Before” and that’s a very good thing.

The Rebel Light would like to be known for their DIY ethos. They claim to record “vocals in our bathroom and drums in a wood shed deep in a mysterious forest in a remote part of Los Angeles.” Whatever they do, they manage to get a first rate pop sound. They first contacted me last year with a great tune called “Goodbye Serenade.” They’re getting some support for “Strangers” from KEXP and KCRW and why not? It’s a stupendous ditty and if it tickles your fancy, be sure to check out the three Rebel lads and their wall of sound as they pull off a coolish and man-tastic cover of The Ronettes’ “Be My Baby.”
