Celebrity update: Yesterday I drove Austin Carlile from Of Mice & Men in my cab. I had no idea who this person was. At the request of his very tough female tour manager, I had to back the van up into a roiling human sea of equipment movers and fans in order to pick him up secretly in a gated and locked area behind the Roseland Theater. Had his fans known he was leaving they would have mobbed the cab and we would have gotten nowhere, she said. Austin was nice, he asked to be taken to a high end juice bar, the kind that sells six dollar vegetable smoothies, and that’s where we went. Perhaps he’s very concerned about nutrition.
