NOFX are Back With a Vengeance and Self/Entitled, By Holly Homan

Punk icons NOFX are back with a vengeance on their new CD which is called Self/Entitled.

Released on September 11, 2012, most of the songs find the band once again singing about political topics including the philosophy of suicide bombers, “72 Hookers,” and even a scathing song called “Ronnie & Mags” which rips Maggie Thatcher, Ronnie Reagan and their failed policies of thirty plus years ago.

Then there’s the song “She Didn’t Lose Her Baby” about the downward spiral of drug addiction.

On the lighter side, two songs, “Cell Out” and “My Sycophant Others” reveal some of the disadvantages of being punk rock stars such as being labeled a sell out or having to contend with hangers-on and other worshipers.

“This Machine is 4” uses the Dr., Seuss story of the Sneetches as a metaphor for the fleecing of the poor and middle class by the rich.

Between the more light-hearted songs and the harder political ones, Self/Entitled is the best I’ve heard from NOFX since 2003’s War On Errorism. Though this album isn’t quite up to par with that aforementioned masterpiece, it is a great album and worth having in any punk collection. Go forth and buy it. You won’t be disappointed.
