If you’re a senior, the thought of giving up your home can be very stressful. Unfortunately, there may come a day when you can’t handle day-to-day tasks on your own. Getting in and out of the tub may be difficult, climbing a ladder to change a light bulb could prove dangerous and going out in the heat to mow the lawn can pose a health risk. When the day comes that you can no longer safely take care of yourself or your home, assisted living can be the answer.

1.Security

Residing in an assisted living facility provides seniors with safety and security. These facilities are staffed 24 hours a day, ensuring that residents are safe no matter the time of day or night. Seniors don’t have to worry about getting up in the middle of the night and experiencing a fall with no one to help, and the threat of a home invasion is all but eliminated.

2.Housekeeping

For seniors with mobility issues, housekeeping is a near impossible task and, for seniors with health problems, taking care of a home can be exhausting. An assisted living facility has employees who will take care of all of your housekeeping and laundry needs for you. Your meals will be prepared for you and served in a dining room where you can socialize with other people. Additionally, you will be able to enjoy a beautifully landscaped lawn without ever having to pull a weed.

3.Medication

It’s not unusual for seniors to be prescribed a myriad of medications that have to be taken at different times of the day, with or without meals and at specifically times intervals. It can be difficult to remember which medication to take at what time or if you’ve taken certain medications for the day. An assisted living facility will monitor your medications, making sure that you are taking them properly and that you get your refills when necessary.

4.Transportation

Residing in an assisted living facility is not a prison sentence. There are day trips, shopping excursions and other chances to leave the facility on special outings. Safe transportation is provided by the facility that can also take you to the doctor, the dentist or any other appointment that you have.

5.Socialization

For many seniors, living alone can make them feel isolated. The kids are busy with their own lives, the grandkids are in school and friends may have moved on. By living in an assisted living facility, seniors are given the chance to socialize with others. In fact, socialization is strongly encouraged and group activities are plentiful. Entertainment is provided and friendships are easily established within the facility.

If you have found taking care of yourself and your home are more difficult than they used to be, moving into an assisted living facility can be the answer that you’re looking for. With the ability to maintain a good deal of your independence, residing in an assisted living facility can give you the help that you need.
