Introducing Jim Basnight – Seattle Stalwart Returns to Scene With Triumphant New CD, By Holly Homan

Former Moberly, Rockingham, NW Rival, and all-around Seattle legend, Jim Basnight, has returned to the scene with a brand new solo CD called, Introducing Jim Basnight. Part country twang, part pleasantly pop, this album starts out melodic and slow, but suddenly becomes perky and quirky on the fourth track entitled “Cameltoe,” with lyrics about hot dogs and dental dams.

The fifth track, “Stars in Time,” consists of two-part harmony with Basnight’s poppy voice along with a sensual crooning female singer named Susan Sims. The track “Pop Shooter” returns to a more rocking, yet poppy sound and keeps the tone very upbeat.

The song “Bad and Beautiful” is almost a slower “Honky Tonk Woman” complete with jangly guitar sounds and lively piano.

After the pop, twang and quirky, this CD abruptly changes to intense and angry with the song “Promises” and “City Life” which brings a harder rock sound with a defiant attitude, while Windy Night brings a more self-assured and confident ‘tude.

“Bebe Gonna Let You Down” again is very reminiscent of early Stones and a little New York Dolls, while “In Love With You” is more of a “guilty pleasure” song, reminiscent of The Monkees.

The CD returns to quirky for the final, “Brown Skin.” This CD is not only a great trip down memory lane, but also contains songs and a musical style that is timeless.
