Idiot Culture – Dark River, by Dennis R. White

“Dark River” is from the album Idiot Culture. This song was recorded live in-studio in 1990 at Electric Eel in Seattle. It was mixed by Jack Endino and produced by me 20 years after the original recording. This is my proudest accomplishment in all my years in music. The sessions were finally released in 2010 on dadastic! sounds. The video portion is taken from Bruce Lipertt’s 1961 short “Very Nice, Very Nice.”

Byron Duff led Idiot Culture throughout the late 80s and early 90s using the names Idiot Culture, Moth and Dive. Duff had earlier been guitarist for The Spectators, a little-seen but highly influential Seattle band of the 1980s. Byron is joined here by drummer Steve Dodge and bassest T.J. West. The sound is molten and heavy and textured.

Jon Poneman of Subpop fame says “Byron cannot be denied.” Everett True wrote that “it makes ‘grunge’ sound like pasty-waste.”
