Walter Trout (With Greg Rzab) – A True Musician and We Need More Like Him, By Ron Swanson

I went to see Walter Trout at House of Blues in Chicago on Friday, Sept. 2. And I must say, Trout is one excellent performer to see live. Be sure to go out and see him when he comes to your town. I’m not a big guitar hero guy, but when you can play a Fender like that and still take the time to think about the songs you write and the people you know, it gets real good. They did one song with a bass player he introduced as Greg Rzab. It turns out he played with Jimmy Page and host of other blues and rock legends over the years. Rzab is definitely the best bass player I’ve ever seen from 20 feet away. Made it look effortless and awesome at the same time. This is the sort of thing you don’t likely get from your basic Lady Gaga show.

Trout and his stellar band, the Radicals, played the Backstage Porch at the House of Blues at $14 a ticket. Not a huge venue, but the house was packed with people happy they’d stayed out for a show that started after 11:00. Many stuck around after the show when Walter was kind enough to sign copies of his new CD, “Common Ground“.

In my opinion, there are not enough true musicians out there these days. Too much is spent on presentation and not enough on content. If you love blues and rock, catch Walter Trout on tour, before it’s too late.
