AJA MONET ANNOUNCES THE WHY MY LOVE TOUR

Surrealist blues poet and activist aja monet has just shared a run of international tour dates in support of her debut album when the poems do what they dowhose recent release has yielded a bounty of acclaim, including glowing write ups from NPRNew York TimesPitchforkAmerican SongwriterOkayPlayer, CulturedTreble, and more. She’ll be joined for the live performances by a cast of musicians playing as The Surrealists, including some featured on the album. The shows will evoke the album’s variegated musical modes, spanning from smoky jazz club virtuosity to meditative resonance, while monet’s words present an ethereal journey exploring the many facets of the human experience.

Monet and The Surrealists will present their debut performance on July 14th in Pasadena, CA with support from Saul Williams, followed by back-to-back dates in New York – a Brooklyn show at Public Records on August 1 accompanied by a full band and a coveted Summer Stage solo performance alongside The Comet Is Coming and Ibeyi on August 2 along with select performances in Chicago and Richmond. Monet will then travel to Europe and Australia in the Fall, including appearances at Muziekgebouw in the Netherlands and at King’s Place in London. As a community organizer, poet, and educator aja monet moves between mediums, each one an essential element of her expression. Organizing and activism manifest as part of a process toward liberation, with the poems, the music, and the art serving as the scribe of the time. On when the poems do what they do aja monet appears as a woman of letters and storm, her poems do not roar in pentameter – but rather in storm surge because, “Who’s got time for poems when the world is on fire?!.” These aren’t poems for poets, but poems for everyone, and the opportunity to bring these performances into the world is not taken lightly – these are shows not to be missed.
