frozen beats and smoldering sound beds
welcome to Wonderland

Taj Church describing Wonderland, his new EP, which will be released in June. In the meantime, you can catch his live show, 4/16 at Moto PDX Cafe, 8826 SE Stark St, Portland, OR, 8PM!

Taj Church is a music artist– a sculptor of sound– residing in Portland, Oregon. He is from Michigan originally and spent large swaths of his youth alone in the woods. These surroundings gave him a perfect setting to explore his voice in his own private cathedral. Having a sensitivity to sound that verges on synesthetic, Taj produces sounds through sculpting the air that it travels through and weaves sounds into densely rich textural worlds in which to explore.

Some of his influences include Björk, Radiohead, Jon Hopkins, Igor Stravinsky, Philip Glass, Ravi Shankar, and Alice Coltrane to name a few. In this respect, Taj’s music lies between genres but is deeply electronic in its roots and production.

Taj’s art is born of a desperation to alchemize painful emotions and experiences into life-affirming beauty. This urge was a shining star in some of his darkest hours. Choosing to share his music for the first time is born of a deep desire to offer a gift to its listeners, so that they can find their voice in dark times while experiencing feelings that are difficult to articulate.

He is setting out to make a forceful statement with the release of his debut EP, Wonderland: a 5-track journey that showcases his raw and vulnerable voice and lyrics, set against the backdrop of meticulously crafted electronic soundscapes.

With his next project already in the works, Taj is aiming to carve a space for something new and fresh in a world desperate for aliveness.
