SECOND HAND: TUN Feat. Studnitzky create innovative track in the (wide-open, undefended) borderlands between techno and jazz

“Second Hand” is the title of TUN’s new single, which features a guest appearance by Berlin-based trumpeter Sebastian Studnitzky, a leading artist in the German electronic jazz scene. “Second Hand” is a dialogue between saxophone and trumpet, a journey to be experienced through the hypnotic rhythm of Mattia Barbieri’s drums and Fabio Giachino’s kaleidoscopic upbeat synthesizers.

TUN is Torino Unlimited Noise, the trio of Gianni Denitto (saxophone), Fabio Giachino (synthesizer) and Mattia Barbieri (drums/drum pads) that crosses genre boundaries by fusing techno rhythms with jazz. During the tour in Albania and Kosovo, TUN will present their new single with a guest appearance by Berlin-based trumpeter Sebastian Studnitzky. The tour was made possible with the support of Italia Music Export, Italia Music Lab and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.

In 2019 they released their first EP “Jason” and in 2021 their first album “New Door” on the Jazz O Tech label. In 2020, TUN participated in the compilation “This is Techno Jazz” and collaborated with Tensal, one of the leaders of European techno. In 2022 they composed the anthem for the European Swimming Championships in Rome, and the track Sahara was chosen as the theme song for the RAI podcast “Girls with Guns”. In recent years they have played at major festivals such as Jazz Refound, JazzMi, Eurovision 2022 (with Dub FX), JazzAhead Bremen, Gate of Tehran (Iran), Edinburgh Jazz Festival, Jazz Rally Luxembourg, Sichtfeld Openair Switzerland and the Internet Festival Pisa.

Studnitzky has played piano since the age of four and trumpet since the age of eight. He perfected the instruments trumpet and piano in jazz and pop at the Staatliche Hochschule für Musik in Stuttgart, Germany, and then moved to the United States, where he received a scholarship to study film scoring at Berklee College of Music. Studnitzky first performed with Markus Kössler as Funkbrüder. He plays with jazz musicians Nils Landgren, Wolfgang Haffner and Rebekka Bakken, as well as with Mezzoforte, Edo Zanki, Laith al Deen, Jazzanova and guitarist Dominic Miller. Studnitzky tours his work in various formations (Tri-Band / Band with Sandie Wollasch, Michael Paucker and Tommy Baldu – Studnitzky/ Trio, Memento). Since 2014, as artistic director, he has implemented a completely new concept for a jazz festival with Xjazz in Berlin.
