Sudan Archives describes her new song “NBPQ (Topless)” as “my autobiography.” She begins by wondering “Sometimes I think that if I was light skin / Then I would get in to all the parties” and reminiscing about her childhood pop duo with her twin sister Catherine, and how all she wanted to do was “watch Sailor Moon / Smoke weed and stare up at the moon,” before breaking into a confident stride and declaring, “I’m not average.”

She explains that the song is “about my insecurities that I have being a brown skin Black female in the world and how to navigate through that while facing American beauty standards. It’s a song of redemption and freedom.” Sudan also confirms her second album will be titled Natural Brown Prom Queen, and includes “NBPQ (Topless)”. Recent new songs from Sudan include her ode to Black hair, “Selfish Soul,” and celebration of the domestic life “Home Maker”. “Selfish Soul” was acclaimed by the New York TimesThe FaderPitchfork, and more. “Home Maker” was added to BBC 6 Music’s A-list and named Best New Track by Pitchfork, who called it “A swaggering statement of intent with all the idiosyncratic charm that makes her music so memorable.”  “(NBPQ) Topless” was written and produced by Sudan Archives, Simon on the MoonTotally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs and Ben Dickey.

Sudan recently announced the Homecoming Tour and just announced new dates in NYCPortland, and more. She will perform at several festivals this spring and summer in the US, Canada, the UK, and Europe. Tickets are on sale now.
