| Today, Philly post-punk quartet Full Bush share “Wild Heart,” the second single off their sophomore EP, Movie Night, due December 3 via Brutal Panda Records. Of the track, Kate said: “Learning to embrace what sets you apart and how you can embody those parts of yourself that perhaps you were told weren’t socially acceptable for one reason or another is what ‘Wild Heart’ is all about. I wrote it at a time when I was struggling to find answers to why I was stuck repeating habits that weren’t serving me, and beginning to do inner child and shadow work helped make sense of the cognitive dissonance I’d been experiencing. The culmination of the song’s message is to stop fighting the lies you tell yourself and instead listen to and feed the pieces of yourself that are screaming to break free and embrace the wildness of who you are without fear.” Movie Night was recorded, mixed, mastered, and produced by Dave Downham (Beach Slang, Low Do) at Gradwell House Recording in Haddon Heights, NJ. Hooks, aggression, melody, and songwriting abound across five tracks mixing elements of alternative, punk, hardcore and rock n’ roll. Movie Night is about Jayne’s old apartment and that one long walk home after The Dolphin. It’s about phone calls you get in the middle of the night when you know something is wrong. It’s dysphoria. It’s about losing the vapes. That one trip Cassie took to Florida. It’s about writing bits on the stacks at Apex. It’s about Kate’s conversation with her inner child. It’s about talking. Or not talking. It’s about a movie that Adesola saw about vampires and it moved her. It’s about drinking too much. How love can be your savior but can also make you feel so utterly lost. It’s the mother fucking cortisol levels. It’s about change. It’s here. It’s forever. “The EP is about change. Whether within ourselves or outside, the past few years have seen a major shift for us individually and as a band. We acknowledge the pain that was caused by our trauma responses, gaslighting assholes, or turbulent relationships. Sitting in and confronting the discomfort of necessary internal shifts and letting go of what doesn’t lift us up, support us, love us in all the beautiful, fucking flawed ways we are as humans. Movie Night is the endcap of self dialogue when you realize you have control and you aren’t dealing with bullshit anymore, you’re stomping on it.” |
| Full Bush’s musical evolution plays out in the grooves! A powerful punk rock band uninhibited by genre, they move their gossamer net of dreamy melodies wrapped around a pulsating rhythm over the listener with the gentle ease of a too quiet cyber-witch alone with an apprentice, only to clang and bash the cauldron and the hard drive in the middle of the night, waking the disenfranchised from drone-induced slumber. Their new EP, Movie Night, is the work of celestial entities floating somewhere in endless indie-space all while masquerading as a hard rocking garage band. This stuff rock like a total hedonistic explosion for the mind and heart; loud, full guitars, warm bass, tectonic drums, and daring vocals. Let’s hear it! This is Full Bush, moving easily from quirky, noise rock to challenging, almost airy dream-punk, dancing like sprites in an incandescent forest, lacing enchantments into the fibers of every song. And yet, Movie Night is not just about waking and rising or being awhirl in some kind of dreamscape; it’s about the experience of the band in nighttime, it’s about the lost dreams too, the ones falling in between the seams of the planks on the stage– it’s about old apartments, weirdly sentimental vampire films, and scratching out moments in time to scrawl poeticisms on backstage debris in these dusty, grime soaked venues in the middle of what feels like a dystopia. In these uncertain, dangerous times, Full Bush uses their magic, their elegiac, rising voice that’s part post-Blondie dirge pop (“Sweet and Low”), part grunge era, dirt drenched chaos (title track “Movie Night”) — their punk rock, weaponized — to make sense of the strange detritus of the modern world. Movie Night is the band asking, finally, “What other lives do you have twisting in the wind/What are the wonders you have shielded within?”, probing deep into our wild hearts, inviting us to unearth the potential beauty, the potential for love, in our own consciousness long held beneath the silt– inviting us to rock the hell out with a spell cast to tape forever. |
