Minnesota: Where Doves are Crying, AGAIN, by Mark Erickson

SMHSMHSMH.

“I woke up this morning and I got myself a [rude awakening].”  George Floyd Part II.  WTF!  I wrote in August 2020 about George Floyd and my familiarity with the site of the civil unrest in Minneapolis:

This morning greeted me with the murder of Daunte Wright, another unarmed Black Male being murdered in Minnesota by a cop. Daunte was 20 years old with a baby.

It is heartbreaking. I am ashamed to live in a society that shoots its citizens then calls out the National Guard to protect WalMart. Once again (having lived my first 18 years on this planet in Brooklyn Center, MN), I am familiar with the precise location of the ensuing civil unrest.  I rode my bike two miles to the community center where I would pay a quarter to frolic in the indoor pool, which included a high dive.  The center is near the WalMart, a sight that was once Earle Brown’s farm.

I attended junior high with students who came from neighboring Brooklyn Park.  Ex-Navy Seal and legendary pro wrassler, The Honorable Jesse Ventura, became mayor of Brooklyn Park before landing at the state’s capital as the governor of Minnesota.  Park Center is the local high school.  Please Jesse, get in your little red corvette and return to your home state to diffuse the powder keg!  Join forces with other native Minnesotans such as Winona LaDuke, Bob Dylan, Garrison Keillor, Amy Klobuchar, Larry Fitzgerald Jr., Al Franken, Paul Westerberg, the Coen brothers, and Morris Day to bring a sense of renewal and hope as expressed in the song, Purple Rain. Minnesota:  where doves are crying, AGAIN.
