Syssi Mananga – Mopepe

Belgo-Congolese Singer-Songwriter Syssi Mananga’s new album “Mopepe Mama” will be released in April 2021.

Until then, she’ll drop a single every month. The first release is a contemporary afro-folk ballad called “Mopepe”. Mopepe means “the wind” in Lingala and celebrates women whose spirit is as free and untamable as the wind. The music video above was shot in Kenya.

For this single, the winner of Tina Turner’s Beyond Music Project (2019) collaborated with virtuoso musicians from the World Music and international scenes, including Congolese guitarist Chris Bakalanga (Freshlyground), South African bassist Shaun Johannes and Swiss flutist Sandro Friedrich (“Lord of the Ring” movie’s soundtrack). The track is mixed by the Irish/South African percussionist and producer Ronan M. Skillen.
