A Night Of Punk Featuring California Band the Fleshies Shake the Shack at Victory Lounge, by Holly Homan

On Saturday May 4 I landed at a little club called the Victory Lounge. There I discovered three great bands I’d never seen before.

The night was headlined by a California band called the Fleshies. The Fleshies are part rock band and -art physical comedy. There wasn’t a single second when singer (screamer) John No wasn’t writing about on the floor, crawling through the tiny club and even sticking his head up some dude’s shirt. At one point the lead singer for opener Clarko hoisted him up like a sack of potatoes and carried him to the bar before setting him down to crawl all over the club again. The other band members added to the zany and consisted of, Mattowar (gtr), Brian Plastik (bass), Hamiltron (drums), John No (Vocals), Yvan Kawecki (guitar). They were a kick.

As mentioned a band called Clarko played prior to the Fleshies. This is a young band with no internet presence. They aren’t on FB or any other social media. They are a young band and they’re cute. I doubt any of them were over the age of 25. But they could play. Their lead singer had shoulder-length dark hair that constantly covered his face as he whipped it about. Their music was a variety of everything. I heard some goth, some punk and straight up rock. Since they have no social media presence I don’t know who is in the band, but they were a tight unit with great stage presence.

Starting the entire night was Scoff. This Seattle four-piece featured a charismatic singer (Knuck) and featured Gabor Hun, formerly of Sledgeback on guitar. Mr. Nate was on bass and Rob Spoon on drums (whose arms should have flown off after the first couple songs he slammed so wildly). Scoff played a straight up hard rock with heavy punk overtones – a fun, tight unit. Another night of punk rock and another night where I discovered more great bands.
