I Could Write A Book, by Davin Michael Stedman

Wrote my first porch song in Louisiana morning…I mean afternoon.

At least it’s the first porch tune of this trip. The first visit here to see Justin in 2017 with Lewis Harding, many songs that came from ether and landed here.

I am sending the video to my Patreons, because their support is making it possible to keep making music around the world with folks like Justin ArmstrongAnthony CameronMtrill Teria, and back home in West Seattle with Mell Dettmer.

But seriously, singer songwriters, serious bands, why don’t you come right here and write songs on this porch? What a writing retreat, what a place to cut your Louisiana album, on idealic sarroundings of the outskirts of New Orleans.

If Justin had all his Gold records there would be little room on the walls. His platinum album with Nirvana is where it belongs in the kitchen.

It’s a strange time in music really, but I gotta keep chasing this hit, because I got more. And it’s not about just hits. The best songs are the deepest cuts. That hit sells the tickets. But a career is everything in between.

If you want to hear that deep cut that goes like,

“We almost found love, on the way down, on the way down, we almost found something pure.”

Patreon baby.

I wrote that because I was at a jazz club last night and this young man was kissing a girl as she wrapped his legs around him, supporting herself against the wall, drink still in hand.

Then I talked to this beautiful French girl, who I chatted up about The Maple Leaf show. I bet her several times that I could blow her mind, and I won two double or nothings.

The best was when I asked her is she knew her greatest French Author Alexander Dumas was the son of a Black Haitian, and she nearly fell out of her seat and called her friends to see.

It was a mix of pride, shock, and wonder of why she never knew.

“Well he was a quarter. That is quite the afro. He looked much like the Creoles of Color in New Orleans, more African that Jelly Roll Morton.”

They spoke to one another in French and sat me down, and said, “you are not like other Americans.” Most people everywhere I go, only know the history of their own Country.”

“that’s called propaganda.”

She sang me a little Opera she learned in school. It was Porgy in Bess.

One more friend in Paris to have drinks with when I see Archibald Wellington III and perform this song I speak of on his show.

Truth is, I am like other Americans, I just one of the few that are almost loud enough to be heard over the din of moronic chatter diminishing our brand.

This is living. Come live this life with me on and off stage. The world is waiting and the songs are coming in hot. Link in the comments. A buck a month = 276 Spotify plays.
