Swimming Bell – 1988, Cold Clear Moon

This video which tells a fanciful story of a young girl’s space exploration is one of the great videos of all time. I’m not kidding. Check it out.

Swimming Bell is the solo project of Brooklyn-based folk singer Katie Schottland. She began to write after she broke her foot in the fall of 2015, learning some basic chords by printing out a chord sheet to learn to play Neil Young’s “Harvest Moon”. Having had no musical training she approaches writing melodies and progressions by ear.

Schottland released her debut EP The Golden Heart in October 2017 to critical acclaim.

Katie Schottland met Tomo Nakayama when she was playing drums for a mutual friends’ band. His 2015 album Fog on the Lens became an inspiration for her own music and production style. “Cold Clear Moon” stood out to Schottland and she began the challenge of recording her own version, and included it in her forthcoming album.

Katie has been working with producer Oli Deakin (Lowpines) since her first EP in 2016. Recording for Wild Sight began in Leeds (UK) in spring 2018, and continued in London and New York. Wild Sight is set to be released April 5th 2019 on Adventure Club Records.
