THIS IS KINGSTON: This was a big victory for Everett Rock & Roll and Reggae in Central Washington.
This is my soon to be distributed by Tuff Gong International hit on the rise, ‘Free Your Mind,’ as it enjoys its’ vinyl premier at the legendary Vinyl Thursday in Kingston.
This is Sick Donkey Records chief BJ DjSticky (Bluejay aka Dj Sticky) and my friend Jamaican artist Clayton Johnson spinning a one off vinyl of ‘Free Your Mind’. This vinyl was cut in Everett by Soniphone Records chief Kyle Ledfordat his facility that evokes Jack White’s Third Man Empire and the well curated scent of rich mahogany and Free Enterpise.
Kyle is preparing a run of singles by my birthday show in New Orleans May 11th, featuring the Tuff Gong logo as distributors, as well as the Sick Donkey.
That’s a very big deal. But the bigger deal is that the B side is the King Porter Stomp banger ‘All Night’ that was a product of a pretty darn fruitful Bellingham & Brighton collaboration.
‘All Night’ was engineered on the Yankee end by Dustin Crum at Justin Smith‘s own NorthWest Sound Studio.
‘All Night’ features Stephanie Walbon and myself with our favorite English band of all time. We’re a little prejudiced.
I dare say it is all starting to come together.
A reggae Godfadda from Kingston phoned to tell me not to cover a great– but somehow unappreciated– song because it is cursed. His cousin wrote it. All three artists that sang it all passed away under tragic circumstances.
I am not one for Superstition, but that is A&R from the heart.
“Don’t cover that song boy, you don’t want that type of evil in your life.”
I am telling you, Kingston is the most Rock & Roll city on planet earth.
I won’t cover it but I will write a song about the song a Godfadda pleaded against me covering. Now that’s a hook.
