ROXY MUSIC – OUT OF THE BLUE featuring a fantastic LUCY WILKINS, by Steve Stav

I’d say the greatest band of my lifetime, but I was two when the Beatles officially broke up. None of their peers sounded like this, and while so many in their wake were inspired or influenced, no one since has emulated them. No one married r&b, disco and prog rock with jazz, funk, and sex like Roxy Music. And always coming up with visuals to match – whether it be album covers or clothing or stage backdrops. What an overwhelming presentation of erotic, exotic sights and sounds. And while so many players made such great contributions in the band’s various “eras,” one has to recognize Bryan Ferry for being so much more than a frontman. What a songwriter, arranger, talent scout, style transmuter and trendsetter. People tend to think of Ferry mostly as the latter, because of his iconic image – but what a disservice. A Rock n Roll Hall of Fame induction is so long overdue. Viva Roxy Music!
