Baby It’s Cold Outside, By Davin Michael Stedman

Some of my conservative friends got mad at me for even analyzing ‘Baby it’s Cold Outside’ after they made a political post comparing it to the pass so called Liberals give rap. Especially the rap we grew up with. It was actually a really good discussion topic.

But of course when I simply analyzed the lyrics as a songwriter and pointed out they were actually taking a Liberal position based on Seinfeld and Rock’s argument that PC culture is actually Conservative, they lost it.

Why did I have to be political in their political post by not even necessarily disagreeing with them? For the love of God, nobody challenge Conservatives with an analysis of what being Conservative, or Liberal for that matter even means.

I argue that ‘Baby it’s Cold Outside’ by Christmas and even pop Jazz standards is a pretty good and durable song musically. But it is a shining example of how gender roles and power is shifting towards equality. Revolutions are messy.

MY INTERPRETATION OF THE SONG #2

You know if you do reverse the genders on that song it is so heavily a song based on seduction, it would sound like a woman trying to seduce a married man.

It’s a song all about seduction, that begs you to ask why the other party keeps saying no and the other persists.

The song also reflects out dates roles of courtship like when said grandpa asked grandma out 47 times before she said yes and they had 47 kids and stayed together 47 years.

Fascinating song.

☆ interpretation #1 made them sh☆t a brick
