Can You Afford this Pizza? By Evie Lancaster

Pizza is undoubtedly one of the most popular foods in the country. Americans eat pizza for dinner, breakfast and even dessert. While it’s not unusual to spend $20 or more on the perfect pie, would you spend a month’s salary for the privilege of one of the best pizzas in the world? It can be hard to stomach paying thousands of dollars for a dinner that you can get on almost any corner for a ten spot, but hundred, even thousand, dollar pizzas are becoming staples at some of the hottest restaurants on the globe. Here are five of the most expensive pizzas that you will find:

1.London

You know Gordon Ramsay from his popular cookbooks and myriad of television shows, but have you ever had the chance to eat in one of his restaurants? If you make it to London, be sure to stop by Maze for a pizza that will put all others to shame. Though the pie will set you back $250, it’s actually the least expensive entry on this list. Topped with white truffle pasta, fontina cheese, buffalo mozzarella, cep mushrooms, pancetta and white truffle shavings, the pizza virtually explodes with flavor from the very first bite.

2.New York City

If you’ve got $1,000 to spare, stop by Nino Bellisima and drop it on this fantastic pizza. The pizza is a foot across and topped with two lobster tails and six kinds of caviar. If you’ve never tried caviar, this is definitely the way to do it. If you have tried caviar, and aren’t a fan, you may want to save your cash and head over to the local pizzeria instead.

3.Glasgow

It may cost you a year’s worth of car payments, but the Pizza Royale 007 may be the best pie that your tongue has ever had the pleasure of tasting. For the high cost of $4,200, you and your party can enjoy a pizza topped with 24-carat gold dust, cognac-marinated lobster and caviar soaked in champagne. The colorful pizza is truly a work of art and absolute heaven to the palate.

4.Henrietta, New York

Did you ever think that you would spend $8,200 on a pizza? If you want to propose to your fiance in a unique way, you better consider spending the money. While the pizza looks like your typical pepperoni pie, your fiance will know something is up when she sees its romantic heart shape. The ingredients aren’t what make this pizza worth the money, but it’s the diamond ring and bottle of champagne that comes along side it that will knock her socks off.

5.Salerno

As if traveling to Italy wasn’t expensive enough, now you’ve got to make sure you have $12,000 for dinner. The dough for this pizza takes 72 hours to rest, is topped with caviar, Norwegian lobster and bufala mozzarella cheese. The pie is then dusted ever-so-lightly with pink Australian sea-salt and served to you straight from the oven. The price tag not only includes the amazing ingredients, but three Italian chefs who will cook the pizza and serve it to you in the comfort of your own villa.

While you may gawk at spending more than $20 for your favorite dish, it’s fun to know that there are some truly wild pizzas out in the world. While we’re dying to try Gordon Ramsay’s offering, we think that we’ll wait until we win the lottery to try the others.
