Santigold – The Keepers – Our House of Jello is Burning Down

Here’s “The Keepers,” the new single from Santigold’s album Master of My Make-Believe (Downtown/Atlantic), which features the portentous, oft-repeated refrain, “While we sleep in America, our house is burning down.” In the video, Santigold portrays a member of an idyllic 1950s, blonde-wigged, American family which happily and cluelessly sits down to an unappetizing meal of shockingly hued Jellos, meats and drinks, oblivious to the world falling apart around them and the present realities of life in the United States intruding on their vacuous banquet. When the milkman lies fatally wounded on the living room floor after a drive-by, no one in the callous family thinks to call for help, but they do stop to take and tweet a cell phone picture of his injuries. The video was directed by Nabil and features cameos by GZA, Kick Kennedy, and Trevor Andrew.
