Not only this song, but virtually all of The Who By Numbers should have been a Pete Townshend solo album. Magnificent stuff, but “Pete’s Suicide Note”, as it’s been called, should have been Pete’s first real solo effort. Except for maybe Slip Kid, and that god-awful Squeeze Box, which should have been taken out back and shot before it could hurt anyone.
