Alison Krauss With John Waite – Missing You

This is one of a million curios I missed between 9/11 and 2010: Alison Krauss singing a country-inflected version of John Waite’s 80s tune, Missing You, with a surprisingly young-looking John Waite singing along. As can be expected on any remake of a classic, this version produces mixed, though generally positive, responses.

“It’s listenable. i still don’t like his beady eyes though,” says Marci Smith.

“I’m heartened that Miz Alison has such finely-tuned Sludge taste! I’d have expected her to go for something hideous and obvious, like Journey or late-model Foreigner. Instead she picks what I used to refer to as “The better ‘Every Breath You Take’!” Bravo!” says EPB stalwart, Tom Kipp.

Legendary Seattle guitarist Steve Ball gets the last word, “Cynics be damned: this is a freaking great song, and a wonderful remake. It brings chills feeling the presence of all of the people I’m currently missing.”
