2011 Declared “Year of Van Morrison” by Innovative, Industry Leading Blog

No doubt about it, 2011 is the Year of Van Morrison.
Portland, OR January 2, 2011 – Ending months of negotiation and unbridled industry speculation, EastPortlandBlog.com announced today its decision to declare 2011 to be the “Year of Van Morrison” in East Portland, on the internet, and across the world.

“We are delighted that our year-long celebration of Van Morrison, the man, his music and his legacy, has brought so much interest and excitement, both here in East Portland, and at each location that EastPortlandBlog.com is read, which is to say, everywhere,” said Everypug123, Chief Content Organizer, EastPortlandBlog.com. “Van Morrison and East Portland have a great deal in common. People immediately see commonalities between the White Soul Rebel from Ireland and East Portland, a thriving, many-cultured, many-hued metropolis known for fine food, public transportation, cloudy skies, warm-hearted people and excellent music.”

“Once those synergistic similarities are embraced,” continued Everypug123, “readers everywhere will instinctively understand that EastPortlandBlog.com is the perfect nexus for a year long celebration of the life and music of one George Ivan Morrison, better known as Van Morrison.”

Plans for celebrations and tributes marking the “Year of Van Morrison” are being finalized and a timetable will be released shortly. Internet articles, reviews and discussions will play a substantial role in the celebration with plans for real time events such as Van Morrison-related flash mobs, karaoke contests, tribute concerts, lookalike competitions, parades, cook-offs, water shows and essay contests to eventually be enjoyed by everyone celebrating Mr. Morrison’s year, 2011.

Born in 1945, Morrison, aka The Belfast Cowboy, rose to fame as the lead singer of Them, a Northern Irish rhythm and blues combo. In his subsequent, nearly 45 year long career as a solo artist, Morrison’s hits have included “Brown Eyed Girl”, “Jackie Wilson Said (I’m in Heaven When You Smile)”, “Domino” and “Wild Night,” amongst many others. Morrison is believed to have recently passed both Danny Boy and Roma Downey and at present trails only Bono as the World’s Favorite Person of Irish Extraction.

The criteria applied to determine celebrities eligible to receive “Year of” honors is a rigorous subjective competition based on proprietary polling, weighted calculation of certain music industry metrics, and titles of nobility. While not yet granted a knighthood, Morrison has been named an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE). This title, when combined with the really catchy and upbeat songs on the first side of “Into the Music” (vinyl edition) made Morrison an obvious and deserving recipient of this prestigious honor.
