NFL Week 15 – Winter Solstice Edition, by Ron Swanson

Every year, on the date of the Winter Solstice, football fans return to Stonehenge to discuss Ron's NFL picks.
[Ed. Note: The sun may be at its lowest point of the year on the Winter Solstice, but Ron hopes to be in the middle of a comeback by then. Updated Tuesday: Ron goes 10-6 this week.]

Thursday Night:

Yes – SAN DIEGO 9 San Francisco

Which Chargers team shows up? I expect that San Diego plays well and the 49ers don’t have Gore, so Chargers to cover.

Sunday:

No – NY GIANTS 3 Philadelphia

New York’s game is better suited to the cold weather this time of year than the Eagles and they should pull this one off.

No – DALLAS 6 Washington

I see the Redskins defense struggling to keep this one close. Cowboys win big.

No – INDIANAPOLIS 5 Jacksonville

I don’t see any way the Colts slow down Jones-Drew. Jags to cover in their biggest game in a while.

Yes – TAMPA BAY 6 Detroit

The Lions defense is playing pretty well. They should keep it close.

Yes – ST LOUIS 3 Kansas City

The Chiefs are a much better team with Cassel playing. If he starts, they should win this one.

No – BALTIMORE 1 1/2 New Orleans

The Ravens pass defense did not look good Monday night. The Saints are playing well and should win.

Yes – CAROLINA 2 1/2 Arizona

Ugh. Both teams will be able to run the ball and neither can throw it. I’ll take the home team here.

Yes – Atlanta 6 1/2 SEATTLE

The Falcons are playing solidly and the Seahawks aren’t consistent enough to trust here.

Yes – TENNESSEE 1 Houston

The Texans are coming off a heartbreaker and on a short week. The Titans should end their skid.

After a long afternoon of football, Mr. and Mrs. Claus snuggle down for a romantic dinner of mead, meat pies and salad. Yummers.
Yes – PITTSBURGH 6 1/2 NY Jets

The Jets are struggling, but the Steelers offense hasn’t been doing all that well. It should stay within a TD.

No – CINCINNATI 1 1/2 Cleveland

The Bengals seem to find a way to lose. Colt McCoy’s return should carry the Browns to a W.

Yes – OAKLAND 6 1/2 Denver

One of those division games that can be tough to gauge, but the Broncos seem to have given up on the season. Raiders to cover.

Yes – MIAMI 6 Buffalo

Six points is too many to favor the Dolphins by. Their offense just hasn’t shown much lately.

No – NEW ENGLAND 9 Green Bay

It doesn’t look good for Aaron Rodgers and that means that the Packers are in trouble in this one. Patriots to continue rolling.

Monday Night:

Yes – MINNESOTA 1 1/2 Chicago

The Vikings QB situation is not good. The Bears to bounce back and win this one.

In certain valleys of Tibet, football fans believe that if Ron's winning picks are written on colored paper and released to the wind on the day of Winter Solstice, good luck will surround the family in the coming year.
