Run For Your Life with Ben Gazzara

This just in from the Mayor of Southern West Seattle:

“I saw an episode of a series I had almost forgotten about, “Run For Your Life” – remember or ever see it? Ben Gazzara as a hip swingin’ lawyer… with only a year or so to live – wanders the country solving problems, smoking cigs and and drinking a lot of bourbon (ironically, the episode I saw was of him trying to cure an alcoholic friend with a mystery cause behind her drunken depression – but there was no irony acknowledged).

Even though a bit corny in dialogue, it was good and it’s amazing thhere were so many shows with back then with 90% thoughtful exposition and hardly any car chases or shooting.

[I saw it] the old fashioned way – on tv. We have a cable station called RTV that runs a lot of old series.

The show reminded me that there were several of those ‘finding yourself’ (usually on the road) shows back then cashing in on the 60’s angst – another great one was “Then Came Bronson.” ‘Run’ has a certain Travis McGee feeling to it, though Gazzara is a slicker character.”

To which Ambro adds, “That IS great! Yeah – Loved Then Came Bronson – beginning of every show suburban castrated dad in station wagon looks over and sees Bronson on his chopper – wearing his stocking cap – bronson had a helmet but he never wore it – it sat atop the “sissy” bars at the back of the seat…..any way suburban any-dad says: “Where you going?” And Bronson says: “Where ever I end up I guess.” Yeah – dig it!”
