Vegas’s Delta Bombers Create A Punked Up Rockabilly Party at Seattle’s El Corazon, By Holly Homan

On Saturday night February the third I had the utmost pleasure of attending a concert headlined by the Delta Bombers. In describing the Delta Bomber’s sound, I’d say think of Elvis with a psychotic twist. They hit the stage and turned it instantly into a raging inferno. These guys don’t stand still. The stage may have been set up with electric charges at the rate they flitted and strutted about the stage.A

By the time their set was half over two-thirds of them were drenched in sweat. Their drummer (Porfirio Franco), though he slammed like a possessed demon, never broke a sweat. He had more hair than the other three combined and wore a heavy smear of black eyeliner around his orbs.

The Delta Bombers are fronted by the dynamic Chris Moinichen, who crooned one second and growled the next while he churned out catchy guitar licks.

The band is rounded out by Andrew Himmler on guitar and Gregorio Garcia on bass.

When they left the stage, the audience wasn’t ready for the night to end and raucous requests for one more song ensued. They returned for two more songs that included my favorite The Wolf. I worried they might not play it. Though this was my third time in as many years seeing the Delta Bombers, but the first I saw them as headliners. I love this band.

Preceding the Delta Bombers was Detroit’s Goddamn Gallows. WOW! If the Delta Bombers hit the stage like a bomb, these guys set it ablaze.

The Gallows describe themselves as “twanged-out punk rock gutterbilly.”  I can’t describe them better than that. They turned their set into one on stage raucous party with members of the Delta Bombers and openers Volk (among others) joining them on stage. They were nothing short of amazing.

As mentioned, a band called Volk opened the evening. Volk is a duo Eleot Reich (drums, vocals) and Christopher Lowe (guitar, vocals who wore large white cowboy hats. Eleot Reich not only could play drums, she had pipes! Her voice rang out gutsy and succulent while her compatriot churned out catchy guitar licks.

This was a fun night and it felt great to see live music again after a long dry spell.
