KAT ups the tempo on raucous electro-funk jam ‘MERCIJEAN’

Effervescent electronic funk trio KAT are pleased to announce a brand new release with the arrival of ‘MerciJean’, lifted from the upcoming debut EP due June 2.

Following on from the sprightly debut single ‘Le Weekent’ released last November and a memorable first show ever at

Fifty Lab, the Brussels based outfit continue their musical evolution on ‘MerciJean’, is an electro-funk gem built on a deliciously groovy bass riff and guitar layers that surf in the summer wind. All the candour and sensuality of KAT are found here to celebrate life force and common pleasure. They say: “

The creation of the track was fuelled by this somewhat nostalgic vision of a Mediterranean summer evening at sunset, at the beach, with friends drinking colourful sodas, cracking silly but genuinely funny jokes, still dancing in their bathing suits, singing “la-la-la-laa” just like that for nothing; a joyful quest, a brief moment of ecstasy, an orgy of refined sugar“.

The tongue-in-cheek, burlesque clip that accompanies the track shows the KATs and their friends in the middle of a rave party in the tiny control room of the Free House, the studios of Capitane Records. Shot in 360°, filmed by the video collective Le Copinage, which succeeds here in perfectly translating the deep joy emanating from KAT’s music.KAT is the new project of Julien Rauïs (aka Krust), Alexis Den Doncker (aka Alex) and Antoine Bonan (aka Tone), all three being part of the Great Mountain Fire family.

For years, KAT’s recordings have been shrouded in mystery. But they surfaced recently when Brussels’ renowned JAM HOTEL was transformed into a hub for local artists and musicians. There, in room 603, this new delirious music (initially made for cat rave parties) finally took shape. KAT’s musical universe recalls the lost happiness of the simple, good life; those instances of freedom and movement that exist between nostalgia and sheer pleasure in the now. KAT translates these sensations into music. The results are funny, dusty, glittering Electro-Funk dance pieces with a taste of sincerity.

KAT’s sunny melodies bounce around and tease you with a kitchen-sink of raw beats, jumpy kicks, playfully sportive grooves, and dirty organic percussions. Somehow, KAT evokes a madhouse marriage of Sly Stone, Bootsy Collins and Daft Punk mixed with Tom Tom Club, Gino Soccio, Kid Creole & The Coconuts, Laid Back, Mr. Scruff and the DFA crew. Part vintage kids’ programming, part classic cinema, KAT’s music aims to transcend style and genre and set people free.
