Latin family band’s modern take on La Bamba

Chicago-based Latin family band A Flor de Piel is back with their latest single ,“La Bamba,” featuring Mexico City-based artist and producer Iván Rosa.

A hit song in the past for both Richie Valens and Los Lobos, this version of “La Bamba” explores different musical genres in a single song as soft and sensual electronic sounds are delicately combined with traditional folk instrumentation.  The release continues A Flor de Piel’s history of acknowledging and embracing Mexican culture and heritage in their music.

“La Bamba is special.  It is over 300 years old and was used to warn runaway slaves to keep going higher and higher into the mountains towards freedom. That particular line ‘Ay arriba y arriba’ has taken on a meaning of reaching higher and higher towards my dreams.”

-Marisol La Brava, A Flor de Piel

This new interpretation of “La Bamba” is a musical collaboration with Mexico City-based producer Iván Rosa, who also sings backup vocals in the track. The song is available for streaming across all digital platforms.
