“phobia” was premiered by Atwood Magazine, who praised the track, calling it “achingly intimate and softly soothing, DAMOYEE’s beautifully vulnerable new song “phobia” is an ethereal, soul-stirring inner reckoning of fear and love.”

The new single is slight left turn musically, adding a sonic blanket of ethereal folk to her achingly personal lyrics, top-notch production, and angelic vocals. As is DAMOYEE’s way, what you hear is her, top-to-bottom on vocals, piano, acoustic guitar, electric guitar, electric bass, kalimba, and synthesizers, production and composition. Though this time she has the help of fellow Berklee student SCayos, who joins for drums and percussion.

DAMOYEE reveals the origins of this song:
“‘phobia’ was one of the first songs I wrote after my last album. When I moved away from home to go to college, it was my first time being on my own. I was having the time of my life exploring and learning more about myself and others. I met and fell in love with someone, and our time together was amazing. Well, I guess things were moving too fast for him and he called off the relationship. I was devastated. Slowly, but eventually, I began feeling like myself again and then someone new came along. I could sense that I was holding back and was more guarded than before. That’s basically what “phobia” is about… this fear of falling in love again possibly having the same thing happen twice.”

A new era of DAMOYEE arrived in fall ‘22 as she began releasing singles about her life during college. Widely known by her angelic and ethereal sounds, the acclaimed multi-hyphenate re-emerged with a shockingly dark and gritty persona. Lyrically and musically, her new sound is cleverly crafted to be as rough and intense as it is calm and euphoric. Since early childhood, the award-winning singer, songwriter, musician, composer and producer has been playing piano and studying music theory and composition to establish her own musical thumbprint built on an intrapersonal understanding of her art.

At age 22, the Dallas native and soon-to-be Berklee College of Music grad has turned her dorm-room production and musical skills into a platform of over 200k followers on TikTok, earning her a coveted spot in TikTok’s Black Creatives program. Her rapid rise was profiled by Entertainment WeeklyNPR and Ebony. Her impressive and often hilarious videos quickly captured a vast new audience. In these videos she produces, plays over 16 different instruments, breaks down music theory, and generally shows off the range of genres she infuses into her content. Labors of love, some can take up to six hours to create.

DAMOYEE has been experimenting musically since her early teens, exploring various projects and even self released an album at 16. She believes the past 3 years have been pivotal, honing her skills at Berklee College of Music, and exploring new music through Tik Tok music creations have led to her finding her sonic agency and truest musical self.
