TWICE SECURES THE BIGGEST PURE SALES WEEK FOR AN ALBUM BY A FEMALE K-POP ACT IN THE U.S. WITH BETWEEN 1&2

NEW YORK, NY (September 7, 2022) – Critically acclaimed, global superstars, TWICE, enter this week’s Billboard 200 Album Chart at number three with their 11th mini album, BETWEEN 1&2, which dropped August 26th via JYP Entertainment/Imperial/Republic Records.  The critically acclaimed EP, hailed by NME as “a self-assured showcase of how far the K-pop group have come,” now holds the biggest pure sales week for an album by a female K-Pop act in the U.S., with nearly 94,000 traditional albums sold and 9.18 million streams accumulated (6K album equivalent units) in its first week.  In total, that brings the group to an impressive 100,000 total units sold in the U.S. alone in its first week.  This debut extends TWICE’s record for the most top 10 debuts on the chart among all K-Pop female acts. Other notable chart placements include number one spots on Billboard’s Top Album Sales and World Albums charts, as well as Billboard’s Artist 100 chart.

BETWEEN 1&2’s smash lead single “Talk that Talk” also saw major movement in its first week, with strong debuts on Billboard’s Global 200 chart, where it reached top 20, and Billboard’s Global Excl. US chart, where it reached top 10.  The single now ties with TWICE’s 2021 smash single “The Feels” as their highest charting single on the latter chart.  Other notable placements include Spotify’s Global and U.S. Daily chart, where “Talk that Talk” entered the top 50 and top 100 respectively (a first entry on both charts for the group).  On Spotify’s Global Weekly Song Chart, “Talk that Talk” entered the top 100.  The single’s music video topped YouTube Music’s Video Trending Worldwide chart four days in a row upon release, and has to date accumulated nearly 60 million views on the platform since its release on August 25th

BETWEEN 1&2 signifies the strong bond between TWICE and their loyal and unrelenting army of fans, called ONCE, to whom the group dedicated the title of the new mini album.  TWICE members Chaeyoung, Jihyo, and Dahyun all contributed lyrics to select tracks on the album.  Chaeyoung wrote the lyrics for track #3 titled “Basics”, Jihyo composed, wrote lyrics, and provided vocal direction on track #4 titled “Trouble,” and Dahyun received credit for writing the lyrics on tracks #6, “Gone,” and #7 “When We Were Kids.”  Additional tracks featured on the album include “Queen of Hearts,” and “Brave.”  Stream BETWEEN 1&2 HERE.

BETWEEN 1&2 marks the group’s first US release since their recent contract renewal with JYP Entertainment, and follows what has already been a massive, record-breaking 2022 for the group. Last month, the group was nominated for their second consecutive MTV Video Music Award in the category of “Best K-pop” for “The Feels,” and, in May, the group played back-to-back, sold-out performances at Los Angeles’ Banc of California Stadium – encore performances of their sold-out 4TH WORLD TOUR Ⅲ. These performances were a major milestone for the group, as they made TWICE the first female K-Pop group to play a North American stadium, proving that the K-Pop powerhouses are continuing to grow as a global force. Following these shows, the group headed to New York to make their U.S. broadcast debut with a performance of their Billboard Hot 100 hit, “The Feels,” on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.

Earlier this year, TWICE kicked off their 4TH WORLD TOUR Ⅲ with three shows in Seoul before heading to the United States where they played five cities – Los Angeles (The Forum), Oakland (Oakland Arena), Fort Worth (Dickies Arena), Atlanta (State Farm Arena), and New York (UBS Arena) –  including two shows in both Los Angeles and New York due to popular demand. All seven shows sold out just hours after on sale, and made TWICE the first female K-Pop group to sell out two North American arena tours.

Last November, TWICE released their latest full-length album Formula of Love: O+T=<3, which hit #3 on the Billboard 200 and stayed in the chart for eight consecutive weeks, and performed the album’s lead track, “SCIENTIST,” on MTV Fresh Out Live. The month prior, they released their first full English-language single, “The Feels,” which marked the K-Pop powerhouses’ first career entry on The Billboard Hot 100 (#83) and earned the group multiple top 10 placements across various charts. They also performed the single on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon and GMA3. Just six month prior, the group made their U.S. broadcast debut on The Kelly Clarkson Show, and also performed on TIME 100 Talks and The Ellen DeGeneres Show

The group has been included in numerous industry lists including Variety’s Youth Impact Report as the only K-pop group included in the list, Forbes Korea Power Celebrity issue in both 2019 and 2017, and Billboard’s 21 Under 21 2017: Music’s Next Generation issue in 18th place and as the only Asian act.

In 2019, the group successfully completed their World Tour, TWICELIGHTS, which included sold-out shows in the US at The Forum in Los Angeles and the Prudential Center in Newark. In 2020, TWICE’s album MORE & MORE made its first ranking on the Artist 100 and Billboard 200 lists. Their second album that year, Eyes wide open, hit the top five slot on the all-genre iTunes US Album Sales Chart and debuted at #8 on Billboard’s World Albums chart. The album’s lead track “I CAN’T STOP ME” debuted in the top 10 of the all-genre iTunes US Song Sales Chart, and they later performed the track on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert’s #PLAYATHOME digital YouTube series.

The momentum continued through 2021 where they kicked off the year with a performance on TIME100 Talks followed by their first U.S. broadcast debut on The Kelly Clarkson Show and a performance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show. That June, they released their 10th mini album, Taste of Love, which debuted at #6 on the Billboard 200 chart. The K-pop powerhouses followed this up with the release of their first full English-language single, “The Feels,” which earned the group their first career entry on The Billboard Hot 100 (#83) and multiple top 10 placements across various charts; they also performed the single on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon and GMA3.
