Are you looking for ways you give back to the community? Well, you’ve come to the right place! Today, the East Portland Blog explores the ways to contribute your valuable time and efforts towards the betterment of the community.

Become a Contributor

Non-profit organizations depend on financial contributions from the community for their day-to-day expenses. Here are a few ways you can support an organization:

  • Donations: These make up a bulk of revenue for any non-profit. If you have the means to contribute regularly, Formstack suggests signing up to make recurring donations at monthly, quarterly, or half-yearly intervals.
  • Memberships: As reported by Chron, memberships involve paying a fixed yearly fee, which depending on the organization could grant you rights, access to services, and annual meetings.
  • Fundraisers: If you’re passionate about a cause, you can organize a fundraiser to pool a large sum of money for donating to an organization. Fundraisers can be held on social media or other platforms
  • Volunteer: Volunteers form the backbone of any non-profit organization. They help in all key duties such as administrative tasks, outreach, fundraising, and more.

Launch Your Own Non-Profit

Starting a non-profit provides you a platform to utilize your skills, talent, and education towards making a positive impact on the community. Here are the steps you’ll need to take to start:

  • Decide a Mission: Taking inspiration from the organizations mentioned above, you could start an organization to tackle the problems of homelessness, addiction, housing, and more.
  • Choose Your Board: Depending on your state, you may need to have a minimum of 1-3 board members to oversee all operations of your organization.
  • Incorporate: Incorporating will make you eligible for government grants, income tax exemption and provide the board members protection from business-related liabilities.
  • Hire Help: Whatever your mission, you’ll need professional help in addition to volunteers. If you want to serve Korean immigrants in your community, for example, you’ll need to look into providers of Korean translation services

Whether you choose to donate, volunteer, or start a non-profit, your efforts will have a positive impact for the greater good of the community.
