Seattle’s All Female Thunderpussy Liven Up the Ballard Seafood Fest With a Raucous Free Concert, by Holly Homan

I didn’t plan to write a review when I went to the Ballard Seafood Fest to see Seattle’s Thunderpussy play a free show. I’ve wanted to see them for some time but never managed to do so. This time I made the effort and they blew me away so much I thought I’d write a short review.

Thunderpussy is an all female quartet led by Molly Sides. This multi-talented woman is not only a singer, she’s an accomplished dancer. Her stage moves resembled a ballet. And her voice, OMG, her voice! Move over, Grace Slick. Move over, Ann Wilson. You have a rival. She even performed covers of Jefferson Airplane’s “Somebody to Love” and Heart’s “Barracuda.” She never stopped moving, whether it was standing at the edge of the stage serenading those up front or twisting and bending all over the stage.

Whitney Petty provided the band’s hard rock sound with punk overtones with her gut wrenching guitar shreds while drummer Ruby Dunphy on drums and Leah Julius on bass filled it all out.

At the end a guest guest guitarist (whose name I did not catch) came on stage and Ruby took over on bass while Leah took over on drums.

Thunderpussy was no less than totally amazing and judging by the enthusiastic response from the large crowd in attendance, I was not the only one with this opinion. I will absolutely see them again.
