Catalyna: “Catalyna la O is a female empowerment statement”

Catalyna is a Puerto Rican singer-songwriter on the rise, owner of a musical and vocal versatility that allows her to rap, interpret, and adapt to different melodies. This was demonstrated in her last two singles “Acompáñame” feat Guaynaa and Yandel and “Ganas”, the same ones that achieved great public acceptance.

“Catalyna la O” was born from the original song popularized by Pete “El Conde” Rodríguez in 1976, that became a Salsa icon in Puerto Rico and the world. Today, the song is reborn through the voice of Catalyna, produced by Nesty la Mente Maestra, Izzy Guerra, and Apollo and written by Catalyna herself along with Noemí García and Johnny Osorio, without losing the original tropical vibe of the song, just adding a modern urban beat.

“Catalyna la O” is a female empowerment statement. I share about all the amazing things we can and do as women so that they can identify themselves with me. So, the next time they think they can’t do something, for the simple fact of being a woman, they can think of Catalyna la O”, said the singer.

“Catalyna la O” premieres along with its official music video recorded in Puerto Rico. It has a vintage visual aesthetic emulating female icons such as La Lupe and Celia Cruz, who only need a stage, a microphone, and a spotlight to steal all the attention.

“The song reminded me of those empowered Cuban women like La Lupe and Celia Cruz… Catalyna La O’s video has a mysterious vibe as if Catalyna were singing in a bar full of gangsters,” Angel “El Guru” commented.
