More True Now Than it Ever Was: baby chemist – What’s Up?

The next direction for the NYC-based duo of Katie Lee Hill and Travis Artz known as baby chemist is a slight left-turn from prior releases: a pop-punk reimagining of 4 Non Blondes’ “What’s Up?”

After years of Katie singing this arrangement in theatre festivals and audition rooms, the duo decided to record and release their take on this longtime favorite. All parts were recorded remotely at home by the duo, their accompanying musicians (Trey Wolfe: lead guitar, Jeff Fernandes: drums), a chorus of a revolution of “HEY’s” from friends expressing joy and angst in solitude, and mixed/mastered by The Cutting Room’s Joseph Colmenero. It elicits the current pop-punk resurgence heard in WILLOW and Olivia Rodrigo and favorites they grew up with like Paramore.

The duo is currently working on their debut album, which will encompass a variety of genres like psychedelic rock, alt-country, folk, and soul.
