Bela Koe-Krompecher’s New Book: Love Death and Photosynthesis Out August 13

Bela Koe-Krompecher‘s new non-fiction book titled Love, Death and Photosynthesis chronicles the lives of several friends in the midwest independent rock scene of the late 1980’s and 1990’s. Today he has released a curated playlist of songs from the book and that inspired the book alongside a Book Trailer video, both debuting alongside a New Noise Magazine feature.

With acclaim from Hanif Abdurraqib, Craig Finn of The Hold Steady, Steve Turner of Mudhoney, The Big Takeover, MAGNET, The Wire and much more, Love, Death and Photosynthesis is a story of friendship, death and ultimately survival. While the book invites readers into the inner circle of this electrifying music scene, the book is really about celebrating the brilliant lives of two friends, Jenny Mae and Jerry Wick, who died too young. Having spent the last 15 years of his life helping the homeless and addicts, after he himself got sober, the new book is a recovery story pulled together by his illustrious musical past. Love, Death and Photosynthesis is available for pre-order now, and will be in independent bookstores everywhere this Friday, August 13, 2021 via Don Giovanni Records.

In the early 1990’s while working at Used Kids Records, legendary chronicler of the Columbus underground rock scene Bela Koe-Krompecher partnered with Jerry Wick to create the independent record label Anyway Records. During the following decade, Bela was deeply embedded in Columbus’ underground music scene as a writer, concert promoter, and continued his role as the head of Anyway Records championing artists such as Guided by Voices, the Ass Ponys, the New Bomb Turks, and Jenny Mae.
