Salt Cathedral – CAVIAR, Tus Ojos

Salt Cathedral are ending the year by sharing another taste of their forthcoming debut album which will be released by Ultra Music in April 2020. “CAVIAR” is an impassioned rejection of materialism in relationships and a celebration of the liberation that comes with it.
Salt Cathedral’s frontwoman Juli says, “CAVIAR is a song where I’m grateful to take emotional safety and simple pleasures over luxuries and fears in a relationship. It’s the contrast between being with someone that showers you with fancy things but is subtly emotionally abusive vs. someone who explores the simple pleasures and gives you safety. Because of personal experience, I really do have this fear that every time I am emotional or upset at being disrespected or mistreated by a man, I am deemed as “crazy”. Calling a woman (or anyone) crazy for being more emotional is not fair and I’ve so often seen it is used to belittle and invalidate their story. The part that I sing-scream in this song illustrates that frustration for me.” Listen to “CAVIAR”.
Earlier this fall, Salt Cathedral released the dreamy and playfully romantic “tus ojos”, which is their first song all in Spanish. The accompanying video, directed by Fuerzas Básicas and Andrea Vivo, echoes the playful quality with front-woman Juli escaping through a painting into a series of surreal pastiches that fill her with wonder. It was preceded by the daring and lovestruck single “muévelo“ which is also a tongue-in-cheek nod to El General’s classic reggaeton precursor “Muévelo, Muévelo”.
Both “tus ojos” and “muévelo“ are featured on Salt Cathedral’s upcoming debut album. The group kicked off 2019 with “Go and Get It” featuring Big Freedia and Jarina De Marco. “Go and Get It” is a motivational ode to hard-working hustlers and it’s vibrant video creates a series of multicolored dioramas with a different color palette representing each artist. It’s a tribute to the creativity, drive, and ambition of self-made artists as well as to the joy of DIY and art without compromise. Watch the video here.
Salt Cathedral is the duo of Nico and Juli, genre-defying artists who effortlessly draw from the vanguard of electronic music, a scope of Caribbean rhythms, and Colombian dance culture to create an infectious sound that transcends borders. They have released a string of bold and acclaimed EPs and singles. Nico and Juli are both originally from Bogota, Colombia but met in the United States while attending Berklee College of Music. Their experiences in the US over the past decade lead them to experiment with the musical traditions they grew up with in new ways, which grew into their addictive sound that is as forward thinking as it is accessible.
