Eminem – The Way I am, by Davin Michael Stedman

I haven’t enjoyed an Eminem album in years, though there have been moments I have been thoroughly impressed such as Rap God. But Brian Dicaprio and I had a fascinating thought tonight when we were chillin’ at the gym discussing Em’s genius and the mild autism I spotted the first time I saw him do an interview.

How many rappers in the Top or even 15 are truly Battle rappers like Eminem?

He never stopped battling, and he is one of the last undefeated people on earth.

He even beat drugs and the odds that he would be a bad parent thus far.

While he sometimes seems to be punching at shadows like on Kamikaze, he even f☆cked up those shadows.

The only MC I ever thought had a chance to gut him was Lauryn Hill but she fell off long ago. But ‘Lost Ones’ was possibly the most surgical diss track of all time.

Em never fell off as much as ceased to have a reason to keep fighting. Now he is fighting because people are questioning his reason to even continue fighting as a middle aged white man collecting Sobriety coins from NA.

We also talked about the joke that Chris Rock had about a White man not even wanting to be his rich ass because White priveledge is so nice.

Well, I don’t want to be Eminem. Never not ever. That bad relationship with your Mom, your best friend and maybe only real friend shot dead, you can’t even do drugs man because you’re an addict. Plus autism is rough, and you’re a gunfighter. And trying to be a gunfighter is no bueno, unless you are truly a gun fighter.

And gun fighters are undefeated. And then they die.
