APOLOGIES IF A VIDEO ISN’T AVAILABLE IN YOUR COUNTRY

1 David Cronenberg’s Wife – Dude of Love  (14)

“He examined people as though they were roast beef” we know nothing about this band but with lines like that we’re going to learn more. Whilst everybody bangs on about Fontaines DC they need to listen to this lot.

2  Stalawa – Traitor Dub (24)

Scotch Bonnet goes dub with East African vocalists – superb

3  DJ Candle In The Wind – Earth & Fire – Pizzeria Zombie Miserable-Theme (60)

Out of Sweden this is fab. Brilliant name, brilliant title and brilliant Balearic chugger. Just came across him this week and all his releases are pure gold. You’ll be hearing a lot more from him on BOTP !

4 Khidja – I’m so Bored  (229)

Chugs along politely for a while then some really cool motifs come into play, French Touch, Steel Band, Middle Eastern. 4 Listens later you’re hooked.

5  DMX Krew – Bleepology (302)

Going Back… Going Back. Remember LFO, masks and Altern 8, it’s happening again and we’re not complaining.

6  JK Flesh – In Your Pit (381)

First release on the Bug’s label in 2019.. Grinding Ministry meets Powell sort of vibe.

7  Ekiti Sound Prince G –  Oba Oluwa  (416)

Nigerian soul funk highlife with hip hop beats..sounds just different enough to be included in this week’s chart.

8  Dream Can – Kill the Man (565)

Latest out on China’s Maybe Mars Records. All the usual China indie touch points. Shoegazey guitar  and wistful indie vocals. Quite like the echoes of the Cure’s first album shimmering in the background.

9  Teleman – Family of Aliens (Ghost Culture Remix) (576)

Teleman always make us happy when we listen to them. Not a million miles away from Hot Chip but a bit more spaced out.

10 O Yuki Conjugate – Insect-Talk (862)

Like it says on the packet , draws you in and won’t let go. A little creepy too ! Must listen.

THE BORDELLOS
CRABS EP

We have here a delicious anti record shop release by nobody less than the Bordellos. Thank youThe Bordellos! You are life savers!
YEAH I KNOW IT SUCKS

The Bordellos are making some of the best pop music I’ve heard, it’s just they’re doing it in such a wilfully obscure way you’ll never hear it.
HEAD HERITAGE

YOU WILL FLOOD THE RIVER
AMSTERDAM

The truth is, I would imagine, that these songs are the very antithesis of the manufactured happy pills that count as pop songs these days and that makes them,
for that very reason,  worthy of a list

Because as we know, there are known knowns; there are things we know we know.

We also know there are known unknowns; that is to say we know there are some things we do not know.

But there are also unknown unknowns – the ones we don’t know we don’t know.
