On Rick Beato – The James Bond Theme – The Sound of Film Noir, by Davin Michael Stedman

I have so many wonderful things to say about Rick Beato and his Rick Beato – Everything Music series on youtube. This guy is everything about why some youtube creators are delivering even more valuable content than most television producers.

He is hitting a real audience. His peers.

Rick is talking about music news, theory, production, business and songwriting in ways that only truly entertaining and engaging professors like Horace Alexander Young can present. Rick was a jazz guitar professor that got swept up in the pop & Rock & Roll world he was ignoring, and decades later he’s a rare beast, I’ll tell you that.

Sometimes History happens, and sign up for it. For Rick, seeing what happened in Seattle in the 1990s changed his life. Why it happened once and hasn’t happened again, is haunting me a bit. But that is another subject, I touched on recently with my hot take on The Showbox being quite possibly torn down.

If you’re a songwriter or producer trying to write great songs, catch up on his series as fast as you can. I am.

These are master classes that are accessable, fun, and free, except for the money we pay these internet barons for equipment and access.

This dude is the Uncle I wish I had. I need to be this Uncle.

Dreams: I hope some day I can get Rick to produce one of my records, or break down what made a song I wrote great, as his series on that subject is aptly named.

…I mean, C’mon. I was trying to write a James Bond theme last year with Scott Rowe, and I am about to really dive in what makes the James Bond theme tick. Game on.
