Back to the Beach Fest In the Heart of Huntington Beach Brings the Finest Ska Bands for A Two-Day Festival, by Holly Homan

Save Ferris
Listen up, all you ska fans living on the west coast of the USA. If you haven’t already heard, there’s going to be a two-day concert on the beach in So. Cal April 28 and 29, 2018 showcasing some of the finest ska bands currently active. As the promo states, this is a two days in the sand concert next to the Pacific Ocean in the heart of Huntington Beach.

Kids under ten get in free and there will be a kid’s zone with activities, so bring the young ‘uns too.

The lineup includes, Fishbone, one of the best live acts in any genre, Less Than Jake (be prepared to get banged up in the mosh pit. These guys are wild and don’t be surprised if Spdey & Johnny Quest appear on stage), Save Ferris (you have to experience the vocals and charm of Monique Powell in person for the full hypnotic effect), The Mighty Mighty Bosstones (long time ska masters who are always full of surprises), Big D & the Kid’s Table (they never disappoint), Mad Caddies (always lively fun), The Aquabats (zany, good time corny kid’s sci-fi combined with a zany stage act and amazing musicianship). And lest I leave out the amazing Goldfinger where front man John Feldmann often flies through the air, guitar firmly in place). Then there’s Mustard Plug, whom I’m totally looking forward to seeing again as well as the always fun The Interrupters and the smooth Agggrolites. Other bands on the roster I have never seen but am beyond psyched to do so are Suicide Machines, Hep Cat & the Untouchables.

For those living in Seattle/Portland, air fare is really inexpensive right now ($140 or so from Seattle), so find a friend to share expenses with and head on down. This is sure to be a great time.

And, Seattle promotors, why oh why do we never get fests like that here? I understand the lack of outdoor shows. It rains here almost constantly, but we have great indoor venues or you could just do it in July or August, the two months of the year it’s almost always dry. But until something like this happens in Seattle, I’ll head down south and celebrate my turning the BIG 60 by taking in a ska fest. Could it get any better? While you await this glorious event and make travel arrangements, here are some photos for you to enjoy and get you in the mood.
