Alice in Chains’ “Man in the Box” is a staple of ‘90s hard rock that no musician has dared try to genre bend – until now. Featured on their upcoming album Four Foot Shack, which will be out February 4, Les Claypool’s Duo de Twang has created a rootsy, banjo-filled rendition of the track that completely turns the original version on its head. Claypool was the genius behind Primus and the ending theme to South Park.

Duo de Twang kept things as live-sounding as humanly possible. “It was very live,” admits Les. “In fact, it was a little difficult, with all the bleed of the stomping and the bass and the vocals. Every now and again you can hear the studio refrigerator come on or the dog barking at something outside in the background. Once it was there, you had to kind of leave it.”
